Amiel Bowers is an Associate Attorney at Callahan & Fusco, where she works in the firm’s New York and New Jersey offices.
Before joining the firm, Amiel spent several years handling real estate matters, including landlord-tenant eviction matters, rent regulatory disputes and due diligence review, and administrative law issues involving various New York State and New York City agencies. Amiel conducted hundreds of appearances before the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) where she represented building owners, property management companies, and contractors on both residential and commercial violations and summonses issued by New York City’s Department of Buildings (DOB), Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), Fire Department (FDNY), Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. As part of her landlord-tenant work, she handled motion practice for landlord-tenant eviction matters, including nonpayment, holdovers, illegal lockouts, and other matters. Amiel also handled a variety of administrative matters before various New York State and City agencies, including the Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) which involved, among other claims, non-primary residence, succession rights, rent overcharge complaints, illegal occupancy, rent restoration applications, substantial rehabilitation applications; the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) where she successfully disputed improperly assessed water charges by the DEP totaling over a million dollars in canceled charges, as well as matters with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), and others. Amiel also has several years of experience handling appeals claimants seeking their Social Security Disability benefits, both Title II and Title XVI, appearing on hundreds of hearings before the Social Security Administration across the country.
Amiel earned her Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Greek and Latin from Boston University (cum laude) in 2009 and her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law in 2012 with a focus on International Law. She has been a member of the New York State Bar and Massachusetts State Bar since 2014.
